Class goals and outcomes

-Use maps and other geographic tools to acquire information from a spatial perspective.
-Explore the concept of mental maps to organize information about people, places, and environments
-Analyze the spatial organization of people, places, and environments on the earth’s surface
-Interpret place by its human and physical characteristics
-Assess how people create regions to interpret the earth’s surface
-Evaluate how culture and experience influence the way people live in places and regions
-Examine the physical processes that shape the earth’s surface
-Assess the characteristics and location of ecosystems

In the bottom right-hand corner of each lesson you will find the Standard and Objective that is covered in that lesson. It corresponds with the Utah State Core.
Learning activities:
ASSIGNMENTS: Each lesson in this course has an activity/assignment attached. These assignments are designed to be submitted via computer through the submission boxes at the bottom of each lesson's page. Once an assignment is submitted they are sent directly to my e-mail. Once the assignments have been graded they will appear on the ASPIRE website.
There are some assignments where you have to draw or write things on paper. There are a couple of ways you can turn these assignments in. #1 you can scan or take a picture of the assignment and sent it to me via e-mail. #2 you can turn it in to me in the Computer Lab. If you choose this way make sure that your name is on the assignment!
TESTS: There are two tests in this course, the Mid-Semester and the Final. For this course you are going to need to memorize all of the countries in the world. The countries of the world will be split up into 2 parts- the first test, the Mid-Semester Test will be due before the 1st semester ends. Which is December 18th 2015. You must come into the Computer Lab (at the Aristotle Building) to take the test during school hours. PLEASE plan ahead, if you do not take the test before the end of the semester you will receive an 'F' on the test which will greatly impact your grade! The Mid-Semester Test includes the countries and capitals in North America, South America, and Africa.
The Final includes Europe and Asia and Oceania (Austraila). The Final is due before the end of 2nd semester. The last day of the semester is May 27th 2016. Again, plan ahead please do not wait until the last day of school to figure out when you are taking the test.
YOU MUST SCHEDULE A TIME TO TAKE BOTH THE MID-SEMESTER and the FINAL AT SCHOOL IN THE COMPUTER LAB BEFORE EACH SEMESTER ENDS.
Grading Policy:
93% - 100% = A
90% - 92% = A-
87% - 89% = B+
83% - 86% = B
80% - 82 % = B-
77% - 79% = C+
73% - 76% = C
70% - 72 % = C-
67% - 69% = D+
63% - 66% = D
60 % - 62 % = D-
59% and BELOW = F

There are no textbooks for this course. Different lessons have different resources, and the links to those resources are all found in each lesson. ***NOTE: The resources and websites I use in this course are for instructional purposes only. Late Work & Make-up Policy:
All assignments for Unit 1 are due by the end of first term. This means that assignments 1-14 and Project 1 are due by October 14th 2015. Then all the assignments for Unit 2 (assignments 15-30) will be due by the end of the second term. The end of second term is also the end of the first semester. So along with completing assignments 15-30, you should also complete the MID-SEMESTER TEST (test on North America, South America, & Africa). Unit 2 and the Mid-Semester Test will be due December 18, 2015. Then term 3 Unit 3 will be due (assignments 31-44). And Term 4 Unit 4 (assignments 45-60) AND the FINAL (test on Europe, Asia, & Oceana) will be due May 27, 2016. Assignments turned in after the due dates will not be accepted. Students may turn in assignments at anytime during the term. If they received a score on an assignment they don't like the can e-mail me to get an explanation of the points missed and they can re-submit the assignment for more points. If an assignment is re-done for more points, it must be turned in by the term due date.
