This course is one year long and counts as a social studies credit towards graduation requirements for the state of Utah.

You will need a notebook specifically for this class. Most of the time you will leave this notebook in class and your notes will be graded.

You are responsible for requesting a topic for the research paper from the teacher in a timely manner.
Makeup work policy:
Makeup work must be completed within one week of the student’s return to class. Makeup for participation points will include posting on a Canvas discussion board. If later than one week after student’s return, see late work policy. This is your responsibility!
Extra Credit:
Extra credit will only be offered to students with no missing assignments. Extra credit assignments are available on request. Points will be given based on the rigor of the assignment and will be determined before the student begins said assignment. All extra credit must be turned in two weeks before the end of the term.
Attendance:
When a student is absent they are responsible for obtaining the notes and/or assignments from the days that were missed. Even if an absence is excused, students are responsible for the work they missed on the day of the absence. The school attendance policy allows students to have 4 excused absences per class per term. Students are allowed 4 tardies per class per term. Students are not allowed any unexcused absences. If you have more than 4 absences in this class, more than 4 tardies, or you have an unexcused absence- those will need to be made up in attendance school. Details on attendance school are in your student handbook. If those are not made up the student with receive an NC (No Credit) for the term.
Teachers are not obligated to give make up work for unexcused absences. Students who ask permission to leave class and do not return in 5 min. be marked with a Truant. Truancy cannot be made up or excused.
Unless a student is checked into the school by a parent and has a doctor’s note, teachers are not obligated to give make up work for points lost due to tardiness.
Please make sure you are in class and on time!
Grading Policy:
100-94 = A 93-90 = A- 89-87 = B+ 86-84 = B 83-80 = B- 79-77 = C+ 76-74 = C 73-70 = C- 69-67 = D+ 66-60 = D 59 and below = F
This year teachers be using CANVAS to post due dates for all assignments. Please check Canvas for due dates! Some assignments and quizzes will also be posted on Canvas. Students will receive instructions on the Canvas system at the beginning of the school year. Parents can check students grades on ASPIRE. Aspire is the grading system our school uses. Student grades will be posted on both Canvas and Aspire. To log-in or create a log-in for Aspire go to this website: pioneer.usoe-dcs.org. Student username is their 4-digit student ID. If a student does not know their student ID they can ask their teachers. Parents and guardians can create their own log-in by clicking the “Create a user-name” on the page, you will also need to know your student’s 4-digit student ID.
Academic Honesty:
Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated. Any plagiarism and/or cheating will result in an automatic F on the assignment/test with no opportunities to make it up. If you know of another student who has cheated or plagiarized, it is your responsibility to report it.
Expected Behaviors:
No vulgar language will be permitted. Dress code will be enforced. For more info about the dress code, see the Student Handbook. No food is allowed in the classroom unless directed by the teacher. Water bottles are permitted. Computers, tablets, cell phones, cameras, and other similar electronic devises are not permitted in this class unless directed by the teacher. These devices, if seen, heard, or noticed in any way by the teacher will be dealt with as outlined in the Student Handbook. Two points for participation will be given each day. By violating these and other expected behaviors, students may lose these points.
